Out of Area Registration

GP practices are now able to register patients who live outside their usual NHS registration area if it is clinically appropriate. It is important to note that a number of important conditions apply to this new type of registration.

If you live outside of our usual registration area and choose to register with us as an Out-of Area patient, you will not be able to receive a home visit from the Surgery if you become unwell or immobile. You may also find that some maternity, district nursing and other community-based services are more difficult to access, as different NHS arrangements may apply where you live.

For further information about this type of registration, please contact us on 01366 310301 or please come into the practice.

To learn more visit the NHS website.

Temporary Residents

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice. You can register as a temporary patient for up to three months.

Although you will be temporarily registered with us you will still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Important Information for New Patients

Medical Questionnaire When you register, we will ask you to complete a health questionnaire. This provides our clinical team with essential information about your medical history while we wait for your official records to arrive from your previous surgery.

Your Named GP Once your registration is complete, you will be allocated a “Named Accountable GP” who has overall responsibility for your care. You are still welcome to see any clinician at the practice. If you would like to know who your named GP is, please ask at reception.

Current Medical Needs If you have an ongoing medical condition or require a follow-up appointment at the time of your registration, please let us know. We recommend booking an appointment with a doctor or nurse as soon as your registration is processed to ensure your care continues without interruption.

Accessibility

If you have any specific information or communication support needs, please let us know. We will do our best to meet these needs.
