Getting your results

For tests arranged by the surgery, you can:

  • View available results through the NHS App or your NHS account.
  • Check your SystmOnline account, if you use this service.
  • Call 01366 310301 between 10am and 1pm or 3pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
  • Speak to our reception team at the surgery.

If you cannot access your results online, our team can help.

How long will my results take?

Different tests take different amounts of time. Some results arrive sooner than others, even when samples were taken at the same appointment.

When your test is arranged, ask when you should expect the result and how you will receive it.

If that time has passed and you have not received your result, please contact the team that arranged the test.

Please do not assume that no news means your result is normal.

What happens when results arrive?

A clinician will review results received by the surgery and decide whether you need further advice, another test or treatment.

If further action is needed, we will contact you. Please keep your telephone number and other contact details up to date.

Our reception team can pass on the clinician’s recorded message. They cannot interpret results or give clinical advice.

Understanding your results

Test reports can contain medical terms, numbers and reference ranges that are difficult to understand.

A result outside the reference range does not always mean there is a serious problem. Results need to be considered alongside your symptoms, medical history and other findings.

If you are unsure what your result means or what you should do next, please contact us. We can arrange an explanation from an appropriate member of the clinical team.

Ask a question about your results

Tests arranged by a hospital or specialist

If a hospital clinic or specialist arranged your test, contact that team for the result and an explanation of what happens next.

The surgery may receive a copy, but this is not always available at the same time as the hospital’s result.

Some hospital results may be visible through the NHS App or the hospital’s patient portal. If you cannot find a result, contact the team that requested the test.

Results for someone else

Test results are confidential. We need to check that we have the appropriate consent or authority before sharing them with another person.

If you support a relative or someone you care for, ask reception about consent and proxy access to online services.

Please use your own authorised access rather than sharing another person’s login details.

If you feel worse while waiting

Do not wait for a test result if your symptoms are getting worse or you need medical help.

Call 01366 310301 during surgery opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm, excluding bank holidays. The results enquiry times do not restrict when you can contact us for medical help.

When we are closed, or if you cannot contact us and need urgent help, call 111.

Call 999 for a life-threatening emergency.
